Middle School Co-curricular Activities

Beyond the Middle School Curriculum, there is a wide range of co-curricular activities and competitions for our students to try. From public speaking to sport, performing arts to academic competitions, the many choices ensure that each student will find their own niche.

Sport and Outdoor Education

Sport and Outdoor Education help our students stay fit and healthy through their early teen years. All students participate in the AGSV sport competition with additional opportunities for further training and skills development in specific sports. The Outdoor Education program includes camps at each of the middle year levels.

Performing and Visual Arts

ÐÔÊÓ½ç Grammar’s extensive performing arts program offers Middle School students the opportunity to join bands, orchestras and choirs, and to participate in school productions and musicals, theatre sports, dance groups and in the House Performing Arts Competition. There are also specialist programs in Fine Arts and the Star Portrait Competition in which to participate.

Other Activities

A wide range of inter-school academic competitions across maths, science, information communication technology, humanities, problem solving, debating and public speaking are available to Middle School students.

Leadership

Middle School students take on leadership roles and responsibilities, including the positions of Middle School Captains; House Captains; Music, Drama, Art & Design, and Community Links Captains; and as Student Council Representatives.

Community Links

The Community Links Program provides a focus for our students’ personal development as they learn first-hand about caring for and serving others. Students in Middle School participate in activities that broaden their understanding of the challenges facing many people in our community, with the students driving many of the initiatives themselves. Activities include tutoring local primary school children, cleaning up local areas, fundraising for charity, serving food to the homeless and working with refugee families.

Carter Family Music Bursary

Each year, thanks to the generosity of the Carter family, two bursaries are made available to students to study in the YVG Music School. The intention of this bursary is to help students in Years 9-12 who otherwise could not afford to participate. For further information, please contact the Music Department on music.department@yvg.vic.edu.au. In October of any given year, if no applications have been received for the Carter Family Music Bursary, Awards of Merit will be given from the Fund to the top student(s) meeting the criteria.
